Church of St John the Baptist, Jerusalem
§ Design note
  1. 01The Golden Dome Above the Market. Hidden among the shops of the Muristan, the church announces itself at night through its golden dome — lit so the cross and dome rise above the market rooftops as a quiet landmark in the Old City skyline.
  2. 02The Ancient Stone. The walls carry nearly a thousand years of history, so the lighting is warm and gentle — grazing the weathered stone to reveal its age and texture without flattening or over-brightening a fragile facade.
  3. 03The Church in the Alleys. In the tight lanes of the Christian Quarter, low warm light along the church walls helps visitors find and read the building at night, giving the ancient facade presence in a crowded, layered streetscape.
§ Technical notes
  1. 01Facade Washing. Concealed fixtures wash and graze the stone walls from ground level, revealing the coursing of the old masonry while keeping the sources out of sight in a narrow, public street.
  2. 02Lighting the Dome. The golden dome is lit to catch its metallic sheen and lift it above the rooftops, so it reads as the church’s crown from the surrounding lanes and rooftops.
  3. 03Warm Tone & Glare Control. A warm colour temperature suits the historic limestone, and shielded aiming keeps glare and spill off the neighbouring homes, shops, and the narrow public space.
  4. 04Discreet Integration. Fixtures and cabling are kept small and unobtrusive and routed to sit lightly and reversibly on a protected heritage building in a dense historic quarter.
