§ Design note
- 01A Fortress by the Sea. Set right on the Mediterranean shore, the fortress is lit so its walls glow warmly above the dark water — a coastal landmark that reads from the beach and the promenade after dark.
- 02The Kurkar Stone. Warm, low light suits the soft golden kurkar sandstone, grazing the walls and round towers so their rough, weathered texture is revealed without overwhelming a fragile ruin.
- 03Open After Dark. As part of opening the conserved site to the public, the lighting lets visitors walk the compound in the evening — following the lit paths and towers through a place that had stood dark for centuries.

§ Technical notes
- 01Stone Grazing. In-grade and low-level fixtures graze the kurkar walls and towers from close range, revealing the coursing and texture of the stone while keeping the light on the ruin itself.
- 02In-Grade Fixtures. Recessed in-ground uplights set into the paths and along the wall bases light the fortress from below, so the equipment stays clear of the historic stonework and the visitor route.
- 03Glare & Dark-Sky Control. Warm colour and shielded, downward-biased aiming keep glare and spill off the beach, the sea, and the night sky, suiting a sensitive coastal setting.
- 04Coastal Durability. Fixtures and cabling are specified for a salt-air seaside environment and an open archaeological site, planned to sit lightly and reversibly on the conserved ruins.
