Antipatris Fort, Tel Afek
§ Design note
  1. 01The Fort at Night. Rising over the Yarkon springs, the Ottoman fort is lit so its massive walls and corner tower read clearly against the dark park, turning the ruin into a landmark for evening visitors.
  2. 02The Stone Walls. Warm light grazes the fort’s ashlar walls, drawing out the coursing and the crenellations so the strength and age of the Ottoman masonry are felt at night.
  3. 03Layers of History. The fort stands on Tel Afek, where a Roman city once rose — the lighting keeps the mood quiet and contemplative, so a night visit feels like an encounter with a long-layered place rather than a spectacle.
§ Technical notes
  1. 01Stone Grazing. Ground and in-grade floodlights graze the walls and tower from close range, raking across the ashlar so its texture and joints read while the fixtures stay low and discreet.
  2. 02Modelling the Mass. Light and shadow are balanced so the corner tower and the depth of the walls are modelled rather than flattened, giving the fort a solid, three-dimensional presence.
  3. 03Glare & Dark-Sky Control. Warm colour and shielded aiming keep glare and spill off the surrounding park and night sky, suiting the quiet natural setting of the Yarkon springs.
  4. 04Durability on a Heritage Site. Fixtures and cabling are specified for an open, damp riverside site and routed to sit lightly and reversibly on the historic walls.
