§ Design note
  1. 01The Tel in the Desert. Rising from the flat Negev plain, the tel is lit so its silhouette and crowning lookout read against the dusk sky, marking thousands of years of settlement as a quiet landmark on the horizon.
  2. 02The Ancient Walls. Warm light grazes the stone retaining walls and the exposed ramparts, drawing out the coursing of the old masonry so the layers of the excavated town are legible at night.
  3. 03The Hilltop Lookout. The modern observation structure is lit as the focal point of the site — a warm beacon at the top of the tel that orients visitors and holds the composition together after dark.
§ Technical notes
  1. 01Stone Grazing. Ground-level and in-grade fixtures graze the retaining walls and ramparts, raking across the stone so its texture reads while the sources stay low and hidden.
  2. 02Lighting the Focal Point. The hilltop lookout is uplit from its base so the structure stands out as the site’s landmark without over-lighting the fragile archaeology around it.
  3. 03Glare & Dark-Sky Control. Warm colour and shielded aiming keep glare and spill off the surrounding desert and the night sky, respecting the dark, open setting of the Negev.
  4. 04Durability on an Open Site. Fixtures and cabling are specified for an exposed desert site and routed to sit lightly and reversibly on the excavated tel.
