The Crusader Fortress, Beit Guvrin
§ Design note
  1. 01Lighting an Ancient Ruin. A fortress this old asks for a light touch — warm, low-level illumination reveals the surviving walls without pretending to rebuild them, letting nearly nine centuries of stone speak for themselves.
  2. 02The Arches and Vaults. Light is placed to draw out the Crusader arches and the vaulted passages, grazing the masonry so the depth of the stonework and the curve of each arch read clearly against the night.
  3. 03The Ruin at Twilight. Seen from the park at dusk, the warmly lit ruin stands out against the deep-blue sky of the Judean lowlands, turning a night visit into a quiet encounter with the site’s long history.
§ Technical notes
  1. 01Stone Grazing. Fixtures graze the excavated walls and arches from close range, raking across the masonry so the texture and joints of the old stone come forward while the sources stay unobtrusive.
  2. 02In-Grade Fixtures. Recessed in-ground uplights set into the paths and floors light the walls and vaults from below and keep the equipment off the historic fabric itself.
  3. 03Warm Tone & Glare Control. A warm colour temperature suits the limestone, and shielded, low-level aiming keeps glare and spill out of the surrounding dark landscape and night sky.
  4. 04Durability on a Heritage Site. Fixtures and cabling are chosen and routed for an open archaeological site, planned to be reversible and to sit lightly on the ruins and their surroundings.
